Good That Van Persia Has Signed For MU!

The new EPL season has kicked off with the Community Shield match between Manchester City and Chelsea.

And now the news is that Arsenal's Van Persie has signed for MU for £24m. This is good news for Arsenal. Arsenal can't afford to hold on to someone whose heart was already not with them.

If there are any more Arsenal players who want to leave, Arsene Wenger should let them go.

The latest rumour is that midfielder Alex Song wants out. Well, as far as I am concerned, if the price is right, Song should be allowed to leave ASAP. A long drawn out affair with Song's exist will not be to Arsenal's advantage.

Arsenal need to quickly settle their player line-up and strategise their assault on the Premier league title.

Another year without a medal will add to everyone's frustration and Wenger's exit from the club after a brilliant and very successful early start for the French professor's tenure as the Gunners' boss.

With several new signings of their own in German forward Lukas Poldoski, French striker Olivier Giroud and Spanish midfielder Cazorla and with the other regulars in good shape, Arsenal should be able to mount a serious challenge for trophies this season.

Last season despite losing key players in Cesc Fabregas and Nasir to Barcelona and MC respectively, Arsenal were nevertheless able to launch a decent assault for the premiership after a disastrous start.

Had it not been for some unexpected results here and there, particularly towards the later part of the season, Arsenal might done better than eventual 3rd placing?

London Olympics: Congratulations Pandelela Rinong!

Pandelela Rinong has just won the bronze medal for the 10m platform diving final!

She fluffed her first two dives, otherwise who knows she might have won the silver and even be close to gold!

It was nice seeing her receiving the medal,.

I believe this is an historic win for Malaysia, being the fist time ever that we have won an Olympic medal of any colour for the diving competition!

Congratulations Pandelela!

Way to go lass!

Apology: I think she fluffed her first and third dive, not the first two!

London Olympics: Argh!.. Bolt And Lin Dan Again!

The London Olympics's blue ribbon event - the 100m race - came and went and there is no need to mention who triumphed.

The 100m race is usually the most anticipated of all the track and field events, but nowadays it is depressing to see only one man competing. The rest are there just to make up the circus.

There is only one mother hen and the rest are like chickens in her wake.

Until the rest of the chickens have learned to do a sub 9.6, organisers should just award the race to Bolt and stop the farce.

In badminton, the singles final was (again!) between Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei and China's Lin Dan.

Now, Chong Wei had his chance, but as usual just couldn't pull it off against the Chinese ace. This time, it wasn't really that Lin Dan had won, but that Chong Wei had lost.

At 18-16 in the rubber set, it was there for Chong Wei's taking. What was he thinking at that point?

Badminton: Olympic Disgrace

Eight shuttlers have been disqualified from the women's doubles competition for being accused of

not using one's best efforts to win...conducting oneself in a manner clearly abusive and detrimental to the sport

Thank goodness! We don't want cheats in any game who bring disrepute to their sport and the spirit of the Olympiad.

Sports persons should always do their best in whichever event they participate in and not try to under perform or deliberately to lose in order to gain an advantage in later rounds.

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) have to largely shoulder the blame for failing to take any action when they had opportunity to in the past.

The Chinese badminton players had been notorious in throwing a game or two to allow a compatriot a certain advantage.

There is no need to mention who always seemed to be either sick or not feeling up to the weather whenever it was convenient for the player to do so in order to give a walkover or to allow a fellow compatriot to win or go through the next round

But what had the BWF been doing when those things happened?

Now that the charade happened at the Olympics, perhaps the BWF had no choice but to act.

What a disgrace!

UPDATE: Indonesia's gentleman shuttler, Taufik Hidayat, called the whole charade a "circus". He was quoted by AFP to have said

It happens a lot. I hope players can learn from it. It's not sport. It's like in women's doubles, China have never lost to Korea. It's like a movie..For the IOC (International Olympic Committee) it's very bad.. I prefer for them to be disqualified because it affects the reputation of badminton. I hope it doesn't happen again in future as it is an embarrassment for our country and I want the best for our country

While China's Lin Dan, of all people, blamed the organisers for setting up a schedule that opened the door to match manipulation. What a sick joke for the Chinese ace to say so!

Lin Dan was quoted by AFP to have said

It's not their (the players's) fault. Whenever they set the rules they should take that situation into consideration. I don't understand why there is a group situation (rather than a straight knockout)

Neither do I understand why players should nevertheless disgrace themselves just because they can manipulate a match, you blockhead! Aren't you fellows there in the true spirit of sportsmen and women?
